"Once Nazrul took shelter in the house of an aristocrat Hindu family in Comilla. He met Promila there and fell in love with her, which eventually led to their marriage. I wanted to depict this story in my playDolon Champa," said actress-turned-director Aruna Biswas about a new play which she made on the occasion of the death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The script of the play has been penned by Gitali Hassan.
Suborno Kazi, related to the Rebel Poet Nazrul, plays the role of Nazrul and promising actress Tisha pairs up with him in the role of Promila. Jotsna Biswas, veteran Jatra artiste and mother of Aruna, has played a major role in the play. Aruna said proudly, "My mother rarely works for TV plays. However, because of the limitations she faces in the Jatra media, she has shown interest in working in TV plays."
Khilkhil Kazi, the grand daughter of the poet, has rendered the songs for the play. Aruna says, "The use of modern musical instruments has added to the appeal of the Nazrul compositions. I have tried to give an authentic look to the set, furniture and attire."

As she says, "I had to study Nazrul's life thoroughly as I didn't want to portray anything inappropriate and inauthentic. I think the play will be entertaining."
The 45-minute play will be telecast on Channel i on August 26 at 7:50pm.
Khelaghar in production
Production for Morshedul Islam's forthcoming film Khelaghar began on August 16 with the recording of two Tagore songs by renowned artistes Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya and Azizur Rahman Tuhin at Tan Studio. Parts of the film will be shot at several locations in Sonargaon for 20 days, from August 20. The film will be made under the banner of Manan Chalachchitra and it depicts the relationships of young individuals affected by the Liberation War. Actors Riaz, Sohana Saba, Parvez Murad and Gazi Rakayet are donning the major roles in the film. Emon Shaha is the music director of the film. The film is based on Mahmudul Haque's novel.
Baby Nazneen's new ventures
Come Eid-ul-Fitr and popular singer Baby Nazneen will release two albums, one solo and another duet with Munir Khan. The solo album is a collection of original folk and modern songs. Baby said, "I have recorded six traditional folk songs so far with their original tunes and instrumental back ups. I hope to add one or two remix compositions of folk songs as well." Under the banner of Sangeeta, the album is yet to be titled. As she maintains, "The listeners will hopefully love the songs. But I don't want to disclose the titles of the songs. Let's keep the listeners guessing."
