Carving a niche in background music
Born in a musical family Khokon said, "I initially received training in different string instruments such as the sitar, Hawaiian guitar and so on from my father, music exponent Dhir Ali Miah. After his demise I received training in classical music from Debu Bhattacharya and worked as his assistant till 1994."
So far Khokon has composed background music for over 50 solo dance compositions, over 10-dance dramas and many group dance compositions. Explaining his interest in composing background music, Khokon said, "After the demise of the renowned music composers like Samar Das, Dhir Ali Miah, Debu Bhattacharya and others, not many music directors in Bangladesh are interested in composing background music for dance recitals. In fact, adequate theoretical knowledge of music and dance is required for composing background music. It is the 'stance of dance', which determines the rhythm of music. I think someone has to take responsibility to fill the vacuum and I find the creative work challenging."

The background music composed by Khokon for dance recitals such as Mohua, Rupbhan, Chandraboti, Sahnai, Nimontran and others have won plaudits both at home and abroad. He has also composed music for teams representing Bangladesh in competitions and festivals in UK, Russia, China, Thailand, Turkey, UAE and India.
On the uniqueness of his compositions, Khokon said, "I basically fuse classical with folk. Moreover, in most of the cases I prefer live soundtrack for the dance. It's helpful for the dancers."
Khokon has other achievements as well. He composed the theme music for the opening ceremony of Bangladesh Games 1996 arranged by Olympic Association, Bangladesh. He said, "It was an overwhelming experience. Over 50-orchestra players gave live music performances at Dhaka Stadium for the display. I believe it's a rare experience in Bangladesh, as few such large scale programmes are organised."
Khokon has also composed music for several TV plays. "My music compositions for TV plays such as Rupnagar, Durey Kothao and others have been appreciated," said the talented musician.
