The 'Adivasis' of Bangladesh demonstrate unique cultures, traditions, knowledge and much more. Their diverse cultures, languages and traditions contribute profusely to make our country's collective heritage an opulent one. Eleven ethnic communities in the south-east (Chittagong Hill Tracts); Santal, Oraon, Munda, Malo, Mahato, Koch, Rajbangshi in the north; Garos, Hajongs in the north-central plains; Manipuri, Khasi, Patra in the north-east and Rakhaings in the coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Barguna and Patuakhali have distinct cultural life.

To highlight and generate public interest in the culture and traditions of the Adivasis a three-day cultural festival titled, 'Cultural diversity is our pride' begins on March 19 at the Shaheed Zia Auditorium, National Museum, says a press release.

An integral part of the festival is a photography exhibition titled 'Forests and Forest Culture' and a display of Adivasi artifacts (on view from March 18- 24) at Drik Gallery.

SEHD has organised the festival in association with community based Adivasi organisations and several others. Kumudini Hajong, an active participant of the historic 'Tonk Movement' will inaugurate the festival.

The three-day festival will be marked by cultural shows every evening. Among the cultural teams that will perform are Oraon, Bawm, Tripura, Chakma, Marma, Khasi, Santal, Monipuri and Mro.
