Celebration of Shilpacharya's 92nd birth anniversary
Some 100 students from 40 institutions of the district took part in the painting competition in four age groups. Additional deputy commissioner (general) of Mymensingh, Zobeyadur Rahman inaugurated the competition. Assistant keeper of the art gallery, Dulal Chandra Gain and a large number of guardians and visitors were present on the occasion.
A discussion on life and works of Shilpacharya will be held on December 29 with Mohammad Shamsul Alam, deputy commissioner of Mymensingh in the chair.

Director general of National Museum Kazi Akhtar Hossain will attend the discussion as chief guest while joint secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Suhraya Begum, chief executive of local zilla parishad Abul Kasem; police superintendent of Mymensingh, Aurangazeb Mahbub; Professor Mir Mohammed Reazul Karim; artist Amirul Islam and others will attend the discussion as special guests.
On the concluding day of the programme, prizes were distributed among the 12 winners from four age groups. The two-day function rounded up with performances by artistes of Mymensingh Zilla Shilpakala Academy.
Zainul Abedin, son of late Tamiz Uddin, a police officer and late Jonabunnesa, was born at Police Staff Quarter in Kishoreganj district on December 29 in 1914. He died on May 28 in 1976 at a hospital in Dhaka. Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala, located in the district town of Mymensingh, is an institution which strives to keep alive the memory of the master painter.
The art museum has 74 of Zainul Abedin's creations (58 of his original art works). The art museum also has a collections of 69 mementos used by the artist.
The Sangrahashala was formally inaugurated on April 15, 1975 by the then vice-president of People's Republic of Bangladesh, Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam on the bank of the Brahmaputra River. The National Museum authority took charge of the art gallery in 1999.
