Surrounded by children, renowned artists Hashem Khan and Rafiqun Nabi paint inspiring works on Liberation War

One memorable spring day, 20 eminent artists gathered at the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka--a landmark since it was the first time that so many painters had assembled at the venue. The colourful event began at the museum's Café theatre on March 26. The programme was telecast on Channel i live. The programme also featured live interviews.

The veteran artists' works encompassed the period during and after the Liberation War. The artists present were Hashem Khan, Rafiqun Nabi, Abul Barek Alvi, Abdus Shakur Shah, Farida Zaman, Alokesh Ghosh, Abdul Mannan, Jamal Ahmed, Biren Shome, Nigar Hossain, Sheikh Afzal, Shishir Bhattacharjee, Shamshud Doha, Hamiduzza-man Khan, Samarjit Roy Choudhury, Zahir Uddin, Ahmed Nazir Khokon and Monir-Uz-Zaman.

After the painting session, the artists put up their artworks for auction to collect funds for the development of the Liberation War Museum. The event was the brainchild of Faridur Reza Shagor, managing director of Impress Telefilm.

A three-day-long Independence Festival organised by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote drew to a close. Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged the Rabindra Sarovar stage at Dhanmondi to enjoy the festival. The festival included discussions, reminiscences, recitation, theatre, dance, children's performance, street theatre, folk songs and other cultural presentations.

Fantasy Kingdom, a well-known theme park observed the day with gaiety. To commemorate this day, a special programme was organised, which included a raffle draw, a Shadhinota Dibosh concert with popular bands LRB, Souls, Prometheus, Parthibo and solo artistes Asif and Kaniz Suborna. The programme was sponsored by Banglalink.
