Concert for a cause

Many of us have heard this song by Bill Whiters, yet have not realised its meaning. This song like many others, conveys the message that in this world we need each other's support. Music in Bangladesh has always been a strong medium in contributing to humanity. In keeping with this ethos, several musicians gathered recently for a charity concert at the Engineers Institute auditorium.
The concert had a lofty purpose: to raise funds for Najifa Taj, an ex-student of Maple Leaf International School. She has been diagnosed with the life threatening Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the body's immune system. Funds raised from the ticket sales will be donated for her treatment expenses. The programme was organised by Ashfaq and Sparsho and hosted by Rudmila Arefin. The security was tight.

Among the bands that participated were Arthohin, Artcell, Black, Cryptic Fate, Stentorian, Icons, Kral, Poison Green, Dna and Chhayapoth. The vocalist of Kral, as usual, wore his customary lungi. Aurthohin, Stentorian, Dna and Kral presented new songs, whereas Black presented their older popular songs. The crowd loved the performance as was evident by their swaying to the music. Tickets were sold out and those who could not get them were seen desperately looking for opportunities to get in.
The musicians of Bangladesh should be applauded for supporting a worthy cause. Participation in such events will inspire the new generation of musicians to dedicate themselves to noble causes.
