A day to dance
Shibli Mohammad: The International Dance Day is celebrated all over the world with enthusiasm. It would be simply marvelous if all the dancers of Bangladesh could jointly organise a show on this special day. Nrittyanchal was planning to organise a programme in the school premises today but it is unfortunate that the opposition party has called a hartal (general strike). Our plan has been postponed for the time being.
Tamanna Rahman: This day is very important because dance is an ancient and popular art form of this land. This day is celebrated worldwide. Here in our country we also celebrate it with enthusiasm and our organisation Nrityadhara has arranged a programme where I will direct dance items.
Farzana Riya Chowdhury: Dance is given low priority in our country. However, we can make the people more interested in dance by celebrating this International Dance Day. It is a great occasion for us. And it is a very important occasion to expose and promote dance among the common people.
Sohel Rahman: The International Dance Day is important because it helps us to work together. We the dancers demand a separate stage for dance performances. The members of the Bangladesh Dancers Society always arranges different programmes on this day. This year will not be an exception. However, I regret that the hartal will hamper our programmes this year. Although dancers are usually apolitical, they are not out of reach of the country's politics. I really wish the dancers would have a united front.
