Like many prophets and philosophers, legendary mystic bard Lalon Shah in his verses urged human kind to 'know the self first' and thereby get acquainted with the infinite mysteries of the universe. Lalon's divine songs feature the urge to reunite man's soul with that of God.

Eminent Lalon singer Farida Parveen in her solo musical soiree rendered Lalon Geeti to generate awareness on Lalon's philosophy. The function, on May 29 at the Shishu Academy Auditorium, began with the rendition of the devotional song Parey loye jao amaye. The message: To submit one's self to the Almighty.

The Lalon exponent sang mystic songs such as Khanchar bhitor achin pakhi, Manush guru nishtha jar, Shob lokey koy Lalon ki jat shongsharey, Rup kathir e nauka khani, Tin pagoley holo mela, Paap punyer kotha ami karey ba shudhai, Sheki shamanya chora, Shotya bol shupathe chol and others. The perfect juxtaposition of acoustics of the indigenous instruments like bansi, dhol, khonjana and tabla with her ethereal voice modulation, cast a spell on the audience.

In between the songs, Farida Parveen delivered speeches such as, "Nobody will be able to do justice to Lalon only by arranging musical soirees in the living room. Rather one should try to get the universal messages of Lalon from the mohajan (devotees), which have the potential to fight against all injustice and at the same time get eternal peace."

The musical soiree was arranged by Bishwa Manob Unnayan Kendra. The aim of the organisation is to deliver the message of 'Atmadarshan' (self knowledge), which according to the institution, develops the potential of human beings.
