Inspiration School of Design and Technology (ISDT) presented a whole new generation of creative and dedicated group of students who created a ripple in the world of Bangladeshi fashion at their 3rd annual fashion show at Hotel Sheraton on Saturday last. The ISDT show highlighted the upcoming designers of the country by conducting a contest between them.

Fashion designing as an art involves functionality and style, and the confident and articulate students of ISDT projected both the qualities at the fashion show brilliantly. About 12 queues on different themes were presented at the show based on the concepts and designs created by the students of the institute.

The theme The beginning of the World by Luthfur Rahman and Farah Deeba clinched the title of the best design, presenting the pre-historic age, when the light of civilisation had not reached human life. Their use of jute, rope, feather, leather, fish bones, wooden beads and seeds brought a curious variety as well as crude element of the primitive age.

Sunny Summer by Umma Salma and Ayeman Belayet won the award for the best creative design. The scorching heat of the sunny summer makes life miserable but at the same time the season provides the freshness of colourful flowers and fruits. The combination of the roughness and brightness of summer was the main target of the duo's enterprise. They presented colourful designs emphasising on cotton.

The competition presented a few other themes like Second Life by Syeda Tahirima and Shamima Khandaker based on the futuristic days when the world might become mechanical and technological. Moonlight by Shamima Sultana displayed sparkling jewels and light coloured dresses to present the smoothness, harmony and elegance while the main elements characterised the moonlight. Sultana Alam and Halena Alam's Sprit of Nature presented the use of motifs of tiny insects in everyday fashion. Cocktail presented party wears by Selina Akter and Tohamina Taslim where they used cotton and jeans for men's wear and georgette for women.

Among others Anthony Philip and Farin Sultana's colourless world titled Aqua, Mirpuri Katan by Dewara Shyrin's traditional wears called Flavour of Tradition using Bangladeshi handloom fabrics were eye-catching.

Aklima Begum, Fatema Shaila and Israt Jahan presented The Curse of Terrorism which was quite stunning with a world of violence and fear where human existence and freedom are denied. They highlighted the issue in a very symbolic manner. Their message was against terrorism through sombre colours, deformed patterns, chains, belts and many more depictions of the curse of terrorism.

AKM Mosharraf Hossain, State Minister for Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, attended the show as the chief guest. In his speech he appreciated the initiative taken by ISDT and hoped that students will contribute a lot to the improvement of the garments sector by their creativity. 'The main purpose tonight is to have a good time and display the hard work done by the students,' said Alamgir Jalil, Principal of ISDT.

Models participating in the show under the choreography of Luna were Sumaia, Kanta, Monimala, Tumpa, Rini, Bristi, Tarin, Chaity, Emi, Lisa, Fardeen, Abir, Mamun and Reza.

The show ended with a performance of the band Subconscious.
