Designers exhilarate 'high fashion'

On the occasion, the institute arranged a colourful ceremony at the Sheraton hotel. The concept of celebrating through a competition among the upcoming designers was very impressive and made the evening gorgeous.
The programme started with the welcome speech of Sharmeen Hasan, Executive Director of NIFD. She urged the garment industries to promote and prepare local institutes to face the challenges ahead in the field of world fashion. This was followed by a catwalk of children--the models-to-be--in colourful, attractive dresses.
The much-coveted part of the programme began after that--the competition between upcoming designers who completed their graduation from NIFD. Models in exceptionally-designed outfits came on stage one after another. Designers represented their enterprises under seven different themes, namely, the Story of Madhubani, Queen of the Night, Rest of the World, Game of Life, Romeo in Future, the Living and the Dead, and Reflection: the Mirror.
The designers, expected to take the world of designing to a new horizon, competed in three categories: best design, creativity and accessories. Rest of the World by Rakiba Sultana and Shahajada Khan won in all the categories by the juries.
The fashion show was judged by a jury board comprising of eminent personalities from home and abroad like Fahim Munaim, Managing Editor of The Daily Star, Geeti Ara Safia Chowdhury, Managing Director of Adcom Ltd, Shobha Dey, journalist-novelist from Mumbai, Suneet Verma, internationally acclaimed fashion designer, Anneela Haque, CEO of Andes Ltd, and designer Mehtab H Khan.
NIFD also expressed its gratitude to the people of different sectors for giving cordial assistance through their journey of two years. They presented the appreciation awards to eminent personalities namely novelist Shobha Dey, cartoonist Rafiqune Nabi, actors Afzal Hossain and Zahid Hasan, singers Fatema-tuz Zohra and Baby Nazneen, models Mou, Nobel and Sabbir, fashion designer Sharookh Shahid and journalist Saifur Rahman. It also recognised the contribution of some institutes, namely, Nation Wide Communications Ltd, TV Channel Tara Bangla, the magazine Binodon and Ad Agency Untitrend Ltd.
On the second part of the programme Shreya Ghoshal, the famed singer of Devdas, took the stage and kept the audience spell bound with her melodious voice. Sponsored by Tara Bangla and Coca Cola Light, the event was organised and managed by Unitrend Ltd.
