Discussion on Dui Bon

Dramatised by Professor Momotazuddin Ahmed, Tagore's popular novel Dui Bon was first staged in February 1978. So far the play has had over 100 shows.

Abed Khan, the editor of Jugantar, was the chief guest while Professor Ahmed Kabir and Professor Khondokar Ashraf Hossain participated in the discussion. Actress Afroza Banu, nostalgically recalled a few glorious moments in the course of the production process as well as the performance. To generate greater interest, theatre activists took part in a quiz programme and rendered two of Tagore's songs Ha Re Re Re and Aamar Jibon Dolay, featured in Dui Bon.

To quote the adapter of the play Momotazuddin Ahmed, the president of Theatre: "Tagore wrote the novel Dui Bon in his 70s. His experience of love and life has been reflected wonderfully in the triangle of two sisters and the husband of the elder sister. Before the division of Theatre, we produced the play. Ferdausi Majumdar, who works in the other faction of Theatre, was the director and actress of the play. Abdullah Al Mamun helped immensely during the production. Initially, Ferdausi performed in the role of Sharmila, the elder sister and Afroza Banu played the character of Urmimala. After the division of Theatre Afroza was cast as the elder sister while Tarana Halim performed in the role of the younger sister."
