Heart Over Head shows that Jakob, after his mother died a year ago, cannot cope with the new situation. He packs his bags and returns home to the Frankfurt suburbs to live with his older sister Petra. Although planning on only passing through, Jakob soon realises he'll have to help her out. Petra is pregnant, her boyfriend has just left her and she can barely make ends meet for herself and her eight-year-old son. When Jakob meets Wanda, a Polish au-pair girl, he falls head over heels in love with her. Wanda is attracted to him too, but she's hesitant to give in to his attentions. The Gebhard family, where she baby-sits, is not very pleased to have Jakob hanging around. Wanda's friends do not like him either. Jakob and Wanda however fight, both in their different ways...
Henner Winckler's film Klassenfahrt shows a school class taking a trip to the Polish Baltic Sea coast. The holiday resort is not exciting enough, especially since it is off-season. Between table tennis matches, day trips and alcohol excesses, a cautious relationship develops between the 16-year-old Ronny and his fellow student Isa. At a disco one night, they meet a Polish boy named Marek. After spending a lot of time together, Ronny notices that Marek shows more interest in Isa than him. Ronny challenges Marek, until his provocations end in tragic consequences.
