Dwelling on the days of '71
Bulbul participated actively on stage, sang patriotic songs on the streets in India to collect funds for the freedom fighters and mobilise the masses.
Bulbul, was musically inclined from an early age. She learnt classical music under two gurus, Nitai Roy and Barin Majumder for several years. Though Bulbul is a Nazrul singer, she has an instinctive inclination towards songs of Panchobhashkor.

The radio played a crucial role during the war: it presented skits and inspirational songs to boost the morale at the camps.
The songs and programmes of the SBBK reflected the storm that was cloaking the country at that time. Joi Bangla Banglar Joi was the opening and closing song of the SBBK for nine months. Then there were countless other invaluable songs such as Purbo Digontey Shurjo Uthechey, Jonotar Shongram, Mora Ekti Phul Key Bachabo Boley, that continued to inspire."
Talking about her aspirations for the new generation, she stated, "The nation has always upheld and fought for democratic ideals and achieved independence through Liberation War. This year is firmly rooted in every Bangalee's heart. The memories linger on the immense struggle of our valiant freedom warriors and the common people. However, the legacy of our Liberation War is in danger as no suitable predecessors have been created to preserve our glorious history. The younger generation should be open to the idea of acquiring knowledge about this momentous time in the nation's history.
"Although freedom fighters are treated worldwide as respected citizens of a nation, they are not given due recognition in our country. We have hardly done anything remarkable for the freedom fighters or for preservation of Liberation War memories for the last three decades," she concludes.
