An enchanting evening with Rabirag

Artistes of Rabirag presenting a chorus

Led by popular Tagore singer Saadi Mohammad, Rabirag stepped into its eighteenth year. This milestone was marked by the organisation's popularity in creating talented singers.

In the beginning of the programme, media personality Muhammad Jahangir formally unveiled the CD cover of an album of chorus songs, Dhwanilo Ahoban, by the artistes of Rabirag.

The show began with the chorus song Oi ashe oi ati. Popular artistes including Saadi Mohammad, Shama Ali, Lily Islam, Amina Ahmed and Swajan Dutta and the students of Rabirag performed the first item. The chorus was a non-stop rendition of different songs like Esho hey shajal shyam ghano deya, Esho shyamolo shundaro and Nil noboghoney. A good selection of songs and the juxtaposed arrangement of slow and fast rhythmed songs made it into an enchanting musical evening.

The audience was appreciative of the performances by the youngsters of Nrityanchal who danced away with the song Chole chholo chholo nadiro dhara, with the soft jingling of their anklets. If the dancers had maintained the rhythm of their movements through Mudras, the dance pieces would have been more entertaining. The bright lights, along with colourful and traditional costumes of the dancers, matched together effectively.

One welcome feature of the programme was that each item was of a short duration, which kept monotony at bay. It is also praiseworthy that Rabirag promoted new faces, especially in the solo items.
