On the occasion of the 143rd birth anniversary of the illustrious poet Rabindranath Tagore, Bangladesh Tagore Singers' Association has organised a three-day festival at Bangladesh Shishu Academy. On the inaugural day of the festival, as many as 120 singers of the association performed Tagore songs to welcome the audience. They renderedBarisho dhara majhe, Shank-ochero biwbholotafrom the dance dramaChitrangadaandBandh bhenge daowhich inspired the freedom fighters during our Liberation War.

This was the 15th National Rabindra Sangeet Festival arranged by the association. The stage was decorated in red with a huge portrait of the poet. Plants in all hues and shapes were an attractive feature of the stage. The main entrance of the academy decorated with colourful lights and shades, and the singers in red and white Garad sarees and white punjabis, brought about a buoyant atmosphere.

The central message of the festival is: We are not out of the reach of the pervasive global violence and have to go back to Tagore for shelter and for relief from this unrest.

A similar sentiment was echoed by the chief guest Dr Anisuzzaman, the Association's chairman Kalim Sharafi and secretary general Tapan Mahmud.

The musical session featured songs on different themes such as love, worship and prayers. The singers enthralled the audience with their melodious presentation. The artistes included Lily Islam, Salma Sabera, Maya Akhtar, Kajol Mukharjee, Nasima Khan, Makhon Hawladar, Chinmoy Bhattacharya and Abdul Wadud.
