An evening of classic Bengali songs

The musical soiree began with an instrumental. Mohammad Yusuf Khan performed a sarod recital while Syed Meher Hossain accompanied him on tabla.

A number of newcomers in the musical arena were introduced in the programme. Tabassum Reza Chowdhury presented two Tagore songs -- Shakhi bhalobasha kare koy and Promod-e dhalia dinu mon, Anindita Chowdhury presented two Nazrul songs -- Porodeshi megh jao rey phirey and Swapne dekhi akti noton ghar. Monju Saha, Mohammad Rafiq, Abdur Rashid, Masuda Anam Kalpana, Fahim Chowdhury, Bijon Chandra Mistri and Rumana Islam rendered contemporary songs. They presented popular songs: Aro kichhu dukkho daona amae, Moner-o naam modhumoti, Tumi raat ami raatjaga pakhi, Bonotol phuley phuley dhaka, Aaj dujanaar duti poth and others. The programme ended with a lively performance of folk songs by Biman Chandra Biswas.

Director of the organisation Nurul Islam Polash said, "The programmes are arranged to uphold our cultural heritage and at the same time attract the attention of the younger generation."
