Shakoor Majid's photos generally depict some stories associated with his subjects--moments, people and objects. Shakoor selects 'mute, intensive things and drab moments that in his treatment become evocative,' says Dhaka University's Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam. 'These objects and moments, in their ordinariness, have a story to tell.' And this time Shakoor comes up with stories of the stages in Dhaka.
The 120-page album contains about 250 photographs from 62 plays and dance-dramas performed in Dhaka up to August 2003. Eminent artist Mustafa Monwar unwrapped the cover of the album. Later, theatre personalities Mamunur Rashid and Ataur Rahman discussed on the book.
The photographs include plays like Rakto Karobi, Peer Chan, Nuroldiner Sara jibon, Hat Hodai, Jaibati Koinnyar Mon, Prithula Proshun, Nittya Puran, Aroj Charitamrita, Mohua, The Crucible, Tebhagar Pala and many other famous stage dramas produced by the theatre groups in Dhaka. The exhibition as well as the album will surely contribute to the historical aspect of theatrical evolution in the country.
The exhibition is open for all until September 16 from 10 am to 5 pm everyday.
