Fusion, a new organisation of enthusiastic youths committed to promote good music, organised a concert at the Kachikachar Mela auditorium on Friday last. The aim was to raise funds for the flood victims.

Three promising singers: Amit Mallik, Halima Parvin and Nirjhar Chowdhury performed in the programme.

Nirjhar Chowdhury, a classical singer, currently teaches music at Chhayanaut. He rendered different popular modern and folk songs like Krishna aila, Bhanj kholo ananda dekhao and Manush ami amar keno. His performance enthralled the audience.

Halima Parveen, an enlisted singer of BTV and Bangladesh Betar, is devoted to the Baul genre and performs all types of folk songs. Her rendered popular folk songs like Maya Lagaise, Amar mon pagla re and Pubali batashe were good listening as she is strongly influenced by the popular folk singer Momtaz.

Working as a sound engineer and music composer, Amit Mallik is also the vocalist and guitarist of the musical group Taan. His rendition of modern popular songs like Mon shudhu mon chhuechhe, Ei neel monihar and Amay deko na was entertaining.

With the use of modern and traditional instruments the sound effect was passable. The audience turnout was low due to rain but the organisers claimed that ticket sales were quite satisfactory. One of the organisers, Zubaer Ahmed said, 'With our little effort we are trying to help the flood affected people. At the same time we are committed to promote the promising singers who have little media exposure.'
