A gesture of compassion by artists

Paintings at the exhibition

In Jamal Ahmed's landscape we find bars of reddish brown and mauve in front to depict the river, and gray and blue at the back to bring in the clouds. There is a boat and five people depicted with squiggles and lines. This shows the coexistence between nature and human beings. Hashem Khan has presented two compositions with birds. The doves are in white, brown and black. The colours have sometimes been painted on and at times sketched in shadows have been included in red, orange and blue. A young woman's outstretched hand is also there in the forefront. The other painting has two emerald parrots, talking to each other and fluttering their wings. The background has swirls of pink, blue and white.

Rafiqun Nabi's Rest has a figure seated on a chair. Some other pieces of furniture have been added too. This is done in simple, muted gray strokes. Farida Zaman has a woman done in blue, with slanted eyes, a red teep and black squiggles for her hair. Green and blue washes set off the portrait. Mohammed Eunus' still life has two bottles that appear like old wine casks, with a modern beaker in front. This is in red, brown and black, with touches of white. Abdul Mannan's remarkable landscape has a pearly sky with billowy clouds, along with a huge tree and green and brown foliage. The people included in the composition are bending over and getting on with their daily work of fishing.

Qayyum Chowdhry's painting contains a woman in a blue sari with a red border. Behind are large motifs in pink and blue, which appear at times like flowers and at others like birds and butterflies. In the centre are more depiction of birds and festoons. Alokesh Ghosh's two boats are there with more boats in the backdrop. The sky is a shade of turbulent green and dark blue while the water is aquamarine. Kanak Chanpa Chakma has two paintings. One has two women sitting and working. The backdrop is in gold and contains depiction of water gourds. The other has a standing woman done in pink, black and gray.

Shadat Hussain's creation is abstract and contains squares, rectangles, triangles and semi oval shapes. In places one finds delicate lines done in crayon. Included in the composition is a face of a woman staring through a window and this is done in black. In Khalid Mahmud Mithu's creation there is a splash of gray as the focal point. At the back is yellow, white and gold. Beyond these one finds green and blue in the forms of geometrical shapes. Added to these are bars and flecks of blue and emerald. Samajit Rai Chowdhury's work has squares of different colours and enmeshed in them is a delicate black net with fish caught in its mesh.

Inaugurated by Qayyum Chowdhury, the exhibition should attract art lovers and buyers.
