Finale of last year's Lux Channel i Super Star
Over the last few years, Lux has shouldered the task of zeroing in on fresh talent in the country. Quite a few stars in showbiz can trace their success to the Lux-sponsored competition. Lux partnered with Channel i, in 2005 in holding the talent hunt. This year Lux and Channel i jointly present 'Lux Channel i Super Star 2006' contest.

The competition was launched yesterday at Hotel Sheraton. Celebrities thronged the event.

Sanjiv Mehta, chairperson of Unilever Bangladesh, said in his opening speech, "Lux has played a pioneering role in spotlighting talented and beautiful artistes in our country. For over a decade, Lux has provided a platform to bring out the 'star' in young Bangladeshi women. This programme not only caught the fancy and imagination of the people living in our country but also the scores of non-resident Bangladeshis."

Brands and development director of Unilever, Naushad Chowdhury; managing director of Impress Telefilm and Channel i, Faridur Reza Sagar; eminent writer Humayun Ahmed, and CEO of Asiatic Mindshare Ltd, Aly Zaker also spoke at the launching ceremony.

The modality of the contest this year will be quite different from last year. The contest will focus on the search for a lead role in a telefilm based on Humayun Ahmed's popular book Dwaruchini Dwip.

Registrations are accepted from all six divisions of the country, but the initial screen tests will take place in five locations. The last date of registration is June 19.
