'I enjoy creative work' -- Tariq
What was your major aim in life in your early days?
As I am the eldest son, my family had a dream that I would bear the responsibility of the middle class family. In those days, my aim was to do some typical job like government service, which is the dream of thousands of middle class people.
How did you come into the cultural arena?
After Independence, I was doing an ordinary job. I saw a newspaper advertisement that the Indian Government would give a scholarship for Bangladeshi students to study drama in NSD. I was keen to apply and I got the scholarship. I consider the incident as a turning point of my life. From then I did not have to look back.

Once I went to a certain village to perform in the role of a Pakistani army officer. During my performance on the stage, an elderly woman became so angry at the character that I was playing that at one stage she attacked me and I had to run to a safe place. Later, seeing my performance, a dominating man of the village wanted to honour me by giving me a medal. However, he whispered in my ears that I should return him the medal when the audience had dispersed. Interestingly, I returned to Dhaka with the medal.
What do you dislike most?
I do not like those who back bite. I get hurt, if someone misinterprets me and become disappointed when someone I have been close to distances himself from me.
What do you enjoy most about being in theatre and TV?
I really enjoy creative work. I have no attraction for money but only for recognition. I would be the happiest person in the world, if I won an international award for my creative work.
What is your dream?br>I have a dream to be the owner of a gallery where I can go and enjoy various art forms whenever I face bad times.
