Indian films don't need Oscar to prove their class: Bhatt
"Oscar is the propaganda of multi-nationals and for Indian films the award is not at all required to prove their content and quality", he said.
Bhatt, who was here for promotion of his latest film 'Saaya' directed by Anurag Basu, was replying to a query by reporters as to what was the reason behind Indian films making it to the nomination category in the Oscars but being unable to win the prestigious award.
"For Indian films or for that matter my film, the real tribute is when a labourer or a rickshaw-pullar purchases a ticket for a film from his hard-earned money and enjoys it to the fullest. That is the real award and Oscar can never be a substitute for it", he said.
He said these days instead of directing films he is concentrating more on promoting young talents and his company, Vishesh Entertainment Limited, would produce eight more films.
On institutional financing of films, Bhatt said it helps a lot in producing films, but wondered whether they would finance a film project promoted by young directors.
"They would only finance a film when it is backed by renowned names and such a situation is unfortunate for young and promising film directors", the film maker said.
