An indigenous cultural function
An interesting cultural function of the Garos was held at the Birishiri Tribal Cultural Academy in Durgapur, Netrakona on November 21. Over 1,000 indigenous and Bangalees were present at the function. The hilly area of Birishiri was decorated specially for the occasion, while the locals came dressed in their native attire.
Indigenous artistes of the Academy performed their traditional dances and songs and also staged a play. The play Sarenjit is a tragedy about a young indigenous man and a woman.
The function is arranged annually by the Academy to observe the harvesting of ÂAman crops.
