An insight into the life of Nazrul

Channel-i will air his Chokher Joler Priya on the death anniversary of our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at 7:50 p.m. on August 27.

Portraying a true story of the poet's life, the play is based on reminiscences of Nurjahan Begum, the daughter of Swagat-editor Nasiruddin. All the characters in the play like Nazrul, Fajilatunnesa, Nasiruddin, Nurjahan and others are historical characters. Scriptwriter Gitali Hasan has pointed out only the episode of Nazrul's unrealised affairs with Fajilatunnesa. In the play Subarno Kazi plays the role of Nazrul. Pijush Bandyopadhaya and Tania Ahmed perform as Nasiruddin and Fajilatunnesa.

'Chokher Joler Priya is my 17th direction in single-episode plays. Besides, I am one of the directors of the drama serial Sporsher Baire, which is being aired on ntv,' says Shipon.

To recall his directing career Shipon says, 'Basically I am an editor. I have completed a short course on editing. Earlier, I learnt operating the camera from Salauddin Lavlu. I think, editing is a part of directing. That is why I had confidence that I would be able to emerge as a successful director. Tomalika Karmokar gave me the break by producing Harmonica for BTV. After that I did not have to look back. Later, Arunabho Anjan helped me a lot with my career in directing.'

'Due to negative tendencies of some of the producers as well as the private channels, the whole package drama industry is on the verge of collapse. In the long run new directors and technical crews are heading towards a crisis. The situation has to improve for the interest of the industry,' Shipon adds.
