Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA) celebrates founding anniversary
To observe the fifth founding anniversary of the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA), a two-day long programme was undertaken. The event was inaugurated at Shaheed Dr Milon Hall on 17 June 2023 and was attended by Dr Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed, the Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU; honourable MP, Dr Pran Gopal Datta; novelist, Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal; and others.
The Centre for Neurodevelopment and Autism in Children (CNAC) was initiated in 2009 to provide healthcare facilities to children with autism and related disorders. Due to increased demands from parents and children suffering, the Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA) began operations in 2014. In July 2018, it was established as the first institute at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Speaking on the occasion Dr Datta said that the general people still have misconceptions regarding autism, to the extent that some of them are misdiagnosed and succumb to death as they receive the wrong treatment. He also reiterated that they should be termed not as disabled children but as especially-abled children.
A host of other people spoke on the occasion highlighting the success of IPNA.
