IUB Literary Society marks one year
A cultural programme was next on the agenda. The first item was a patriotic song titled 'Ami Banglar Gaan Gai.' Then followed other songs some romantic and others surreallyrically rendered by Shariar, Shumon, Zulkar and Evan in Bangla and English. The three-hour entertainment programme, which comprised songs, dances and stage shows, had intermittent recitations of poetry. The verse, some of it self-composed, was recited by Zulkar, Naime, Samim Elahi, Rajib and Saquib. The duet by Farha and Asif was well appreciated by the audience.
Creativity, versatility and variety were the features of the occasion. The high point was the staging of the well-known Shakespearean play 'Taming of the Shrew' and a Bangla play which focused on the ills of the dowry system.
The past achievements and challenges that lay ahead of IUB were recounted by Professor BM Chowdhury, the chief guest. The next speech was by Dr Joyce Silva who, while recalling the past, charted out newer areas of activity for the students. He called on them to do their best for the motherland which has nurtured them so far. The other events of the IUB first anniversary were the presentation of the annual report by Azim Ahmed, the President of the Literary Society and the introduction of the newly elected members of the Society to the audience.
