Keeping alive the Tagore legacy on film

It has been a busy few months for Nargis as she painstakingly prepares for shooting Abujh Bou. As she says, 'I have already read 12 stories of Rabindranath. I strive to understand the style and perception of the great writer.'

True, famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray made a film based on the original story of Shamapti which was highly appreciated by the audience. However, as Nargis said, 'We are going to keep the original story intact, but the presentation will be modern. We will try to maintain Rabindranath's style'. What's more, 'From music to dance, every element will be used in my film,' she added.

Right now the director is working on the screenplay. Work has also begun on the costumes and ornaments for the film and the set is being designed. Music composition and recording will begin after Eid-ul-Fitr. Shakib Khan, newcomer Priya, Diti and Aruna Biswas are the major members of the cast. Mahfuzur Rahman Khan as cameraman, Mujibur Rahman Dulu as editor, Mahiuddin Faruq as art director and Alam Khan as music director will form the crew.

Femcom Bangladesh Friends Association will produce the film under a programme aimed at making a novel based film each year. After Shamapti, it plans to make films based on the stories of famous writers such as Sharatchandra Chattopadday, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Jibonananda Das.

'Hopefully, our future generation will be able to enjoy the films based on famous Bangla novels and will be familiar with our literature,' says Nargis.
