Lalon captured on celluloid

Reputed film director Tanvir Mokammel finishes with the shooting of the film Lalon based on the life, music and philosophy of the legendary Baul-icon Lalon Fakir. Several places like the Bhugilhat village on the bank of river Bhairab in Jessore, Kushtia, Shilaidaha, alluvial lands in the Padma and Hotapora have been used as the shooting spots of the two-hour film.

The character of Lalon Fakir has been played by three actors to project three phases of his life: accomplished actor Raisul Islam Asad has played the matured Lalon while young Azad Abul Kalam has played the singer in his youth. Lalon's childhood has been portrayed by Arko Saha. The character of Bishakharani, Lalon's life-long partner, has been done by Tamanna Yasmin Tithi while Shomi Kaiser has played Pyarinnesa, Lalon's adopted daughter.

Other major roles have been played by Bhaswar Bandy-opadhyay, Chitralekha Guha, Ramendu Majumder, Khurshiduzzaman Utpal, Wahida Mallik Jolly and many others. Syed Sabab Ali Arju has directed the music of the film. Shot in 35mm, the film is now on the editing table.
