Laurels for Mamunur Rashid

This year Dhaka Padatik honoured acclaimed theatre personality Mamunur Rashid with the award on June 25. Previous recipients of this award are Ferdausi Majumder, Nasiruddin Yousuff, SM Solaiman, Syed Jamil Ahmed and Gaziul Haque.

Chief Guest of the programme, Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury handed over the award to Mamunur Rashid. Munir Hossain Belal, President of Dhaka Padatik, presided over the programme.

Theatre personality Nasiruddin Yousuff, President of Shammilita Shankskritik Jote (SSJ), said, "Mamunur Rashid is one of the top three living Bangladeshi playwrights. If we count the ten best dramatists of Bangla literature, his name must be included in the list. He has his own views on socio-political equality, which he depicts in his plays."

Golam Kuddus, the General Secretary of SSJ, the senior member of Dhaka Padatik, said, "Mamunur Rashid is the name of a successful playwright, director, actor and organiser of the country."

Chief Guest Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said, "Only those dramatists who are true to their beliefs and philosophy, can attain timeless appeal."

A deeply moved Mamunur Rashid said, "I have received numerous awards for my theatre activities. Abul Kashem Dulal Smrity Padak holds a special place. I always try to depict struggles of the down trodden in my plays."

Mizanur Rahman, the General Secretary of Bangladesh Patha Natok Parishad and Gazi Zakir Hossain, General Secretary of Dhaka Padatik were the other speakers at the programme.
