Loko Natyadal Theatre Festival begins

Eminent educationist Sirajul Islam Chowdhudy inaugurated the festival. General secretary of ITI, Bangladesh, Ataur Rahman; noted theatre activists Mamunur Rashid and SM Mohsin; chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, M Hamid; advisor of Loko Natyadal, Ali Ahmed; General Secretary of Sammilito Shangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus and general secretary of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Jhuna Chowdhury were the special guests at the event. Liyaqat Ali Lucky presided over the programme.

In his speech M Hamid said, "Loko Natyadal is working tirelessly in diverse fields of theatre for 25 years. It's a great achievement for any group." He also emphasised on the need for government support and patronisation.

Mamunur Rashid said, "Honesty and cultural integrity are essential to any cultural activist. Our theatre is constantly fighting against social injustice and corruption. It is inspiring for all that Loko Natyadal is working all over the country in this regard for such an extended period."

Ataur Rahman said, "Our theatre has become capable of making great impact on the society. The momentum of that impact will lead us forward."

Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said, "Alienation has become a prevalent issue in our society. Festivals give us relief from this situation." He thanked theatre groups for their contribution in cultural development of the country.

Liyaqat Ali Lucky expressed his gratitude to all who helped his group in the last 25 years. He said, "Without their support we would not be able to come here." He also demanded more support and patronisation from the Gover-nment for cultural activities.

After the inaugural programme, Loko Natyadal performed Majhrater Manushera, a play written by Gao Sing Xian; translated by Abdus Selim and directed by Liyaqat Ali Lucky.
