Mature tunes
Containing 14 Rabindra-songs of different ragas, the album comes out after Alam's long period of detachment from music. Having started singing at an early age, Alam stepped aside from the music world in the early '80s. His passion for music, however, never faded away. So, when last year he happened to meet Manindra Roy -- just arriving from Rabindra Bharati University after finishing his studies and the Tabla-player Mortuza, Alam started practising with them.
In his early life, Sharful Alam actively took part in different cultural and social revolutions. He trod the streets of Dhaka during the mass-revolution of '69 singing for the cause of the mass people. Inspired in music by all the family members from his early childhood, Sharful Alam started his musical lessons in classical music and Rabindra song under Ustad Mafizul Islam and Mrinmoy Dasgupta. In the post-Independent Bangladesh, he learnt from Ustad Mohammad Ali Chowdhury, Sudhin Das and Pijush Kanti.
He performed at cultural functions during his studentship in Dhaka University. He has also performed on BTV.
