Mime show makes for an enjoyable evening

The performers of Modern Art and Photographic Society for the Deaf

As part of the programmes taken up by the Rangpur Disabled Foundation to observe the World Disabled Day, the organisation was invited to present a mime show in the local town hall. In deference to the repeated request of the audience, another show was held on the following day.

Modern Art and Photographic Society for the Deaf is an organisation of the hearing disabled of West Bengal.

The performers' comical efforts had the audience in splits of laughter.

It was as if the world outside the town hall had been forgotten.

Mime is an acknowledged art in Bangladesh as well as India. It is an art form where performers express their ideas and emotions without speech.

However, the Indian artistes performed a bit differently. Unlike Bangladesh the performers played the role of different characters in different situations which they created on the stage. There was no prompting from the wings.

A series of incidents that might usually take place in our surroundings was represented through the act.

The cultural affinity between the two countries made it a memorable evening for the audience.
