An artificial fireplace made of sandstone and wood
Sandstone, clay, terra cotta and stones, wood and metal-- these materials feature prominently in the works of sculptress Sameena M Karim. Entering Art & Soul Gallery in Gulshan, one's attention is grabbed by her mural, titledSea World. One cannot but stop to admire this work in lovely colours of blue and turquoise. Using, terracotta, bronze, ceramics and shells, Sameena effectively depicts underwater life--complete with a tortoise, fish, shells and organic life forms.

Another work at the 15-day ongoing Mixed Media Mural Exhibition is a mask fashioned out of ceramic and sandstone. Then there are ceramic pots and bowls in an array of brilliant colours. Also on display are sculptures and wall hangings.

Another popular draw is an artificial fireplace made of sandstone and wood. The sandstone comes from Thailand. Last, are the woollen rugs in shades of blue, grey and white.

Sameena has done her master's in fine arts from Chittagong University. Now she is based in Dhaka and this is her first solo exhibition. The display ends on June 4.
