Music of the maestro
Bengal Foundation has brought out the debut album of this master of Rabindra Sangeet. The launching ceremony of the album titled Shakol Kanta Dhonnyo Korey took place at the Bengal Shilpalaya on November 25. Artist Aminul Islam unwrapped the cover of the album as the chief guest of the programme. Earlier, Chairman of Bengal Foundation Abul Khair presented an uttariyo to veteran Wahidul Haque.
Many renowned cultural personalities including artists Qayyum Chowdhury and Kalidas Karmakar, Language Movement activist Mahbub-ul-Alam Chowdhury, Professor Anisuzzaman and Rabindra Sangeet artiste Mita Haque attended the launching ceremony.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The album contains 14 songs including Tai tomar ananda, Aj shobar rongey rong, Shaghono gahono ratri, Bedonay bhorey giyechhe, Gaaner bhitor diye, Bashontey ki shudhu, Joy-jatray jao go and Aha tomar shongey praner khela.
After the launching ceremony, Wahidul Haque, flanked by the students of his music school Anandadhoni, presented a few songs from the album: Amar matha nato korey dao hey, Pagla haowar badol diney, Ankhijol muchhailey, Tumi kichhu diye jao, Shakol kanta dhonnyo korey.
'Listening to Wahidul Haque's music, especially Rabindra Sangeet, is a rare experience,' writes art critic Abul Momen in the introductory note of the CD of Shakol Kanta Dhonnyo Korey. The reason is that Wahidul Haque has always remained behind the scene of innumerable programmes he has organised. 'Perhaps this is not his best singing, yet this album is an invaluable specimen for the young generation,' comments Momen.
