Musical evening on Tagore by Rabirashmi

Presided over by Tagore singer Mahadev Ghosh, the director of Rabirashmi, in the anniversary programme, the organisation honoured acclaimed Tagore singer Tapan Mahmud for his contribution.

Several organisations and Tagore singers such as Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shongstha, Baitalik, Sadi Mohammed, Anup Bhattacharya, Mokhles Alam and others also felicitated Tapan.

A modest Tapan said, "I do not consider myself suitable for this laurel. I need to do more to deserve such an honour."

In his generosity, Tapan Mahmud has contributed the token money of Taka 10,000 to augment the fund of Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shongsha. The aim is to provide succor for singers who are struggling to eke out a living.

In his speech chief guest Kalim Sharafi, said, "Tagore songs inspire us to face the challenges of this chaotic world. By honouring acclaimed Tagore singer Tapan, Rabirashmi has encouraged the Tagore singers of the country."

The president of the anniversary programme Mahadev Ghosh said, "We are glad to honour acclaimed Tagore singer Tapan Mahmud. Each year in the anniversary programme, we honour eminent Tagore singers of the country. Earlier we have honoured Kalim Sharafi, Shudhin Das, Wahedul Haque, Ajit Roy and Anup Bhattacharaya."

On the heels of the discussion programme, the singers of Rabirashmi, gave a choral rendering. The chorus began with the rendition of Tagore's devotional song Bhubon Ishwaro Hey. And then they rendered Bishwabina, followed by a few other Tagore songs on nature and love.

Then dance troupe Nrityalok Shankskritik Kendra staged a dance performance directed by Kabirul Islam Ratan.

Bhashwar Bandopadhyay was the host of the anniversary programme.
