'My journey is not yet over' --Sanjida Khatun

Glimpses of new literary works

The publication of every new book is like a new lease of life, ' said the veteran cultural activist and Tagore exponent Dr Sanjida Khatun during the launching ceremony of her two new booksShangskriti Katha Shahitya KathaandShwadhinotar Abhijatraat the VIP Lounge of the Press Club, recently.

Eminent scholar Professor Zillur Rahman Siddiqui launched the new books while Professor Hayat Mahmud and cultural personality Mofidul Haq led a lively discussions on them.

'I have recounted the struggles, the joyous and sorrowful moments of my life in Shwadhinotar Abhij-atra', said Sanjida, adding, 'My struggling journey is not yet over.' This book contains the glimpses of language movement, Bangla New Year celebration, creation of Chhayanaut and the Liberation War and the rare memorabilia of the writer during that time span. Talking about this book, Mofidul Haq said, 'According to Indian philosophy, life is a Yatra(a journey). Sanjida is not the sole wanderer on this journey; rather she has traveled along with the people of her society through that passage. Thus her personal experiences are depicted in her works.'

About her book Shangskriti Katha Shahitya Katha, Sanjida said, 'This work covers culture, literature, language and education along with a discussion on some famous personalities.' This literary endeavour is a compilation of 17 articles, most of which were published earlier in different newspapers and magazines. Professor Hayat Mahmud said, 'The cultural movement of pre and post Liberation War has been depicted in this book. In fact these articles are not full of verbosity and pontification; rather they are the expressions of her life and struggle.' Her articles on Rabindranath, Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah, Barin Majumdar, Sufia Kamal and others give a vivid description of their personalities and work. This book is dedicated to Shailajaranjan Majumder and Abu Sayed Ayub.

Poet Shamsur Rahman paid his tribute to Sanjida Khatun, saying, ' I have seen her the helm during the troubled periods of the nation. I hope that she will continue this throughout her lifetime.'

At the end of the programme, Zillur Rahman Siddiqui said, ' Between the two books, Shwadhinotar Abhijatra impressed me a lot. Actually Sanjida Khatun has the rare power to attract people with her dedication and work.'

Jatiya Grantha Prokashon and Nobojug Prokashoni published the two books.
