Nazrul Institute's five-day programme ends

The programme started with a research-oriented speech on Nazrul by Professor Md. Abdul Quaiyum. Nazrul composed innumerous songs and poems urging the development of human conscience. Professor Quaiyum elaborated on the humane qualities of Nazrul as a poet who focussed on equity, universality, youth and contemporary ideas through his poems. He said that Nazrul wrote about people belonging to different social, religious and economic status, about gender equity. 'Nazrul always inspired the nation to greater creativity. He is always with us in the present distressful and hostile situation we are going through, like he always was, with the powerful poems,' Quaiyum concluded.

Among others, State-Minister for Cultural Affairs Begum Selima Rahman, Secretary to the Culture Ministry, Kazi Abul Kashem, Chairman of Nazrul Institute Trusty Board, Mobarak Hossain Khan and the Executive Director of Nazrul Institute, Abdul Mannan Syed also spoke on the occasion.

In the cultural session popular recitor Camellia enthralled the audience with her presentation of the poem Batayon Pashey. Matiar Rahman and his dance troupe performed next with the song Phuler Jalshay Nirob Keno Kobi. The performance was however, quite unprofessional. Sifat E Rabban presented an uncommon Nazrul number, while popular artistes like Shahin Samad and Nashid Kamal rendered Shukhshari Shamo Tonu Mon and Ghumayechhe Phul. However, as a whole the programme lacked coordination and discipline.

The institute arranged an art, recitation and music competition for children on the first three days of the celebration. As the last item, the winners received prizes and certificates.
