'Nirantor' to go to Indian film festival

This year's International Film Festival of India, one of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in Asia, will be held in Goa from November 23 to December 3. Nirantor, a Channel i production, will compete in the Swarnomayur and Roupomayur categories at the festival. The other categories at the festival are 'contemporary world movie', 'retrospective', 'focus' and 'film bazar'. Director of Nirantor Abu Sayeed will attend the festival.

Focusing on the moving story of a sex-worker named Tithi, Nirantor features how the economically deprived young women are driven to prostitution. Shabnur, Ilias Kanchan, Dolly Zahur, Jayanto Chattapadhyay and others perform in the movie.

The film has been also selected to compete in the 'best foreign language film' category at the forthcoming 79th Academy Awards.
