Nittapuran: A play adapted from an epic
Actors portray mythical characters in the play
Masum Reza's playNittapuranpresents the history of human civilisation with a unique touch. Adapted from theMahabharata, Nittapuranpresents Eklabhya, a minor character in the epicMahabharata, as the protagonist because of his latent integrity and heroism. Through a storyteller, the playwright narrates Eklabhya's powerful story. The narrator further asserts that Vyas Dev's epic will be presented in a new way.
In the play some legendary characters, such as the five Pandabs, are depicted as villains. Many people of the lower castes like Eklabhya and others are the victims of jealousy, vindictiveness and tricky schemes of gods and people of the upper caste. This eternal social problem is the theme of the play. The playwright has managed to convey these issues through a mythical story. Directed by Masum Reza, the set is designed by Kamaluddin Kabir, while Nasirul Huq Khokon is the light designer of the play.
As part of the ongoing drama festival, Desh Natok will stage Nittopuran at the Experimental Theatre Stage today at 6:30 pm.
