Although the flood situation across the country is improving gradually, the reality is that its victims are surviving through a rising scarcity of food, drinking water, clothes, shelter and other necessities. At this hard time of the country, artists, teachers and students of the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University, have came forward with their paintings to bring back the smile in the faces of the ill-fated people by raising funds.

The students of the institute drew paintings instantly in watercolour and sold them at a very low-cost. The prices ranged from Tk. 100 to Tk. 500. 'We've got a tremendous response from people from all walks of life. Hundreds of paintings have already been sold and we are earnestly looking forward if our small effort can help the affected people', said Farzana Ahmed Urmi, a student of the final year and the one of the participants of the fund raising programme.

'The students have already raised about Tk. 65000', said Professor Mohammed Hamiduzzaman, the convenor of the programme. The sale of students' paintings came to an end on August 9.

Meanwhile, the teachers of the institution also arranged a special exhibition featuring 80 paintings by 72 renowned artists. With the theme 'by buying one painting you can help the flood victims', this exhibition was inaugurated by AFM Yousuf Haider, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, on August 6 which continued till August 10.

Art works of famous artists like Mohammad Kibria, Abdur Razzak, ATM Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury, Abu Taher, Mohammad Rafiqun Nabi, Abul Hashem Khan, Monirul Islam, Abdus Shakur Shah, Mohammed Younus, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Ranojit Das, Debashish Pal, Rokeya Sultana and many others were on sale, comparatively at much lower prices. The prices ranged from Tk. 2500 to Tk. 30000.

A great response was drawn from the people. Around Tk. 1,50,000 has been collected from the sale proceeds.
