AKM Hasan

A major milestone in his career is his role as a comical character in the mega-serial Ronger Manush. Hasan says, "Before Ronger Manush, I had performed in about 20 plays. However, I did not get due recognition. The serial is my turning point. Now, I have taken acting as my profession."

Hasan and his co-actor Pran Roy have become so popular following their comical performances that the duo features in many a commercial.

Why is there a paucity of quality comedy players? Hasan says, "Enacting the role of a comic character is not easy. In most cases, because of exaggeration, the ordinary performers create agitation amongst the audience instead of entertainment. They lack the proper 'comic sense'. But, those who do have the potential are reluctant to perform only as comic characters. Moreover, average viewers underestimate the comedians and label them as 'jokers', which is quite embarrassing."

Hasan does not want to confine his acting career purely to the realm of comedy. Hasan says, "A quality actor should have the potential to perform in various characters. In acting, those who have sharp wit and good 'comic sense' can perform better than others. Say for example, Humayun Faridy has become a powerful actor due to his acumen legend as an actor and he has got good 'comic sense'. As I have performed comic characters well, I believe I can play all other characters with ease.

"According to many, my success in the character of Gafur in the stage play Shonkranti, written and directed by Mamunur Rashid, proves my potential in performing art. In this particular character I have to deal with a variety of emotions," adds Hasan.

Although Hasan has gained immense popularity for Ronger Manush, he considers his performance in the role of Mobarak in the play Mitthuk, directed by Tanvir Ahmed Probal, as his best performance in TV drama. "This character is really a moving one," comments Hasan.

AKM Hasan has emerged as an actor through theatre. The regular member of Aranyak Natyadal, Hasan has been regular in theatre for 12 years. Besides his bold appearance in the play Shonkranti, Hasan has also got appreciation for his performance in Raaraang.

He is now performing in the film also. Hasan says, "Director Salauddin Lavlu is making a film based on the mega-serial Ronger Manush. I am acting in the film. I have got offers for few other movies also."

Hasan is also an editor of TV programmes. In future he hopes to emerge as a director. For his powerful histrionic skills, Hasan has received the Bachsas award.
