Swanan holds poetry festival

A recitation festival titledO Alor Pothojatri Ekhane Themo Naorganised by Swanan, a cultural group was held at the Nat Mandal of Dhaka University on January 2 and 3, says a press release. The programme started off with the popular songO Alor Pothojatriby Shalil Chowdhury, reputed Indian music director.

Professor Anisuzzaman, the chief guest of the festival, gave away the Nazim Mahmud Honourary Medal to Kanthoshilon, a recitation organisation. Golam Mustafa Honourary Medal was handed over to popular recitor Jayanto Chattyopadhaya.

Swanan staged their production Nakshikantha , a composition of poems depicting the love, grief, poverty, struggle and the life of the ordinary people of rural Bangladesh.

The poems recited at the festival included pieces from Rabindranath Tagore, Jibonanonda Das, Jasim Uddin, Shamsur Rahman, Abu Zafar Obaydullah, Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah and other reputed poets of Bengal.

The theme of the festival portrayed the unrest and frustration of the people of the modern world. Anonya Laboni and Farhanur Rahman Api directed the programme. Abdullah Al Mamun, Nayma Siddiqua, Toufiq Al Mannan Tofa, Mushfiqua Naznin, Dulal Bondya, Annanya Laboni, Rumana Chowdhury and others participated in the recitation.
