Santana Rangsa, music teacher of Birishiri Tribal Cultural Academy is a preserver of traditional Garo songs. For the last 13 years at the Academy, she has been trying her best to preserve the traditional Garo songs and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. Through her unremitting labour, Birishiri Tribal Cultural Academy has become a noted institution in the country. She is also a skilled performer when it comes to traditional Garo songs and dances.

Santana Rangsa was born in 1962 in Birishiri, Netrakona district. She started taking music lessons under Gopal Dutta when she was a student of class seven. Besides Garo songs, Santana has also had extensive training in classical music.

Between 1978 and 1980, Santana was the regular singer of Salgittal, a special cultural program for indigenous people on Bangladesh Betar. Subsequently, she has also performed in Barnali, Banaful and Lok-lokaloye -- special BTV programmes for indigenous people.

In 1999 she visited Iraq and Jordan with 18 other members, as part of a Bangladeshi cultural team.

Santana looks forward to achieving her goals as an artiste while upholding the traditional Garo culture.
