Projapati--Natyakendra's forthcoming comedy

Talking about his latest theatrical project, Tariq Anam Khan, the director of the play, says, 'Projapati is the translation of popular American playwright Thornton Wilder's Matchmaker which is based on Austrian playwright Johan Nestroy's A Day Well Spent. I have translated Projapati, maintaining the authenticity of the original comedy. And I have not even changed the name of the characters. Only the title of the play has been modified.

'In fact, Projapati is a comedy. The protagonist of the play is a matchmaker. The antagonist, a shrewd man named Horas, thinks that everything in the world can be achieved by money. Through the change of approach of the antagonist's observations on life we will try to reveal that money is not the only driving force in the world.'

Commenting on his directorial approach, Tariq says, 'It is totally theatrical. Some of the characters in the play are sarcastic. I have tried to create an appropriate situation and crisis for a successful comedy.'

Tariq Anam Khan is also the light designer of Projapati. He says, 'The light design is very simple. We will only try to create the mood and tempo of a comedy by using some colour effects.'

Tanvir Hasan is the set as well as the costume designer of the play. Changing some stools, he will try to create different suggestive situation on the empty space. For the costume he will use typical western clothing.

Tariq Anam will use selected western composition for the background music. A Russian lady is behind the choreography of the play. Before the premier, a technical show will be arranged at the Experimental Theatre.

Projapati, a new offering of Natyakendra, is the next stop for theatre lovers.
