Promising standard scripts for television
Among the 30 scripts she has written so far are Nirjon Srot, Kajol Kalo Din, Shesh Bikel, Shesh Thekey Shuru, Swapney Dekha Chand, Shukh Swapner Ghar, Jol Porey Pata Norey and Shei Tumi Ei Tumi. Brishtir Chokhey Jol and Shesh Kotha are her other scripts which have been staged in the USA and the UK at six different places.
In the late 1980s Zinat met actor Azizul Hakim, whom she married later on. With a little help from Hakim her story Ashim Shunyota was published in the magazine Chitrali. She recalls, "I used to study all the scripts of his plays and write the counter dialogues. Hakim also inspired me to write."
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. But it was not until 1994 that she finally sat down to write a script. Zinat says, "Hakim received a script which was very weak in terms of storyline and language. I had a feeling that I could write better. I wrote Nirjon Srot in 1994. Abdullah Al Mamun directed the play, which featured Azizul Hakim, Bipasha Hayat, Zahid Hasan and other prominent artistes."
Zinat has received a highly positive response for writing these scripts. Like many people she also has a dream to become a director. "But I am so involved in writing scripts that I haven't given it a try yet," she says. "I am preparing myself to do directorial tasks because I have an interest in the technical aspects related to editing. Hakim and I have a production house, Roots Audio Visual which we are trying to establish. In the near future I will direct a television play."
According to Hakim, Zinat has become an expert in coordination. To quote him, "She is the directors' director as she does everything from planning to casting."
Zinat claims that she has introduced the idea of panel of directors, which saves time. "I have employed three directors in the drama serial Din Choley Jaay. These directors can work simultaneously in three different locations with different artistes and shoot three different scenes of the same drama serial. Artistes have such packed schedules these days that they are not willing to give much time for one serial."
About her commitment to society Zinat says, "My stories always carry a message on social issues. The script is thought provoking."
