Promoting indigenous goods

The Design Centre of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has organised a fair titledSwadhinota O Boshonto Mela. The fair began on March 26 and will run till March 31 at BSCIC in Motijheel. BSCIC conducts advisory and industrial promotion services, including training of entrepreneurs, skill development of artisans and craftspeople, creation of jobs for small and cottage industries (SCI) and development of linkages between SCIs and large and medium-sized industries.

The third day of the fair showcased an array of products made by the students of the Design Centre of BSCIC, such as block prints, screen, prints, wood carvings, terra cotta, handicrafts, jute and leather products. The pricing of the products was reasonable and there were 68 stalls in the fair.

The Design Centre organises fairs quarterly and this is their 26th such fair. "The purpose of the fair is to promote the products in the local market and motivate the students," said AKM Abdus Sattar, assistant chief designer and coordinator of the fair.

A certification ceremony was also held on the first day of the fair. The chief guest of the event was SR Osmani, chairperson of BSCIC. The special guest was ABM Kamrul Islam, director (Marketing and Design), while Jamilul Alam, regional director of BSCIC, presided over the function.
