Qawwali at Shilpakala Academy
Renditions by local qawwals -- Dr Shah Mohammed Samir Hossain, Sheikh Zamir Uddin, Mohammad Hasanul Haque and their troupes -- received a warm response from the audience on the opening night.
A notable feature was that the event was well attended by music lovers both young and old. Qawwal Dr Shah Mohammed Samir Hossain stole the show on the first day of the programme. He displayed all the requisites of an accomplished qawwali singer. He presented devotional pieces that also carried social messages. Cholre chol qaafila bendhey and Khwajaji tomar rawza and more dealt with devotion and spirituality.

On the second day, three qawwals from outside Dhaka -- Abdul Qadir, Sayed Zabed Sarwar, Mohammad Kaiser and their troupes -- performed at the soiree.
