Rabindra festival comes to an end in Tripura

A weeklong festival, held on the occasion of the 144th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in Tripura, India came to an end recently at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan. Organised by the Information Cultural and Tourism department and Eastern Cultural Centre, the festival began on May 8. Artistes from Bangladesh also participated in the festival.

The festival began with Tagore compositions, presented by artistes from Tripura, followed by a dance-drama Shayma by the troupe Nalanda. Eminent Tagore singer Iffat Ara sang Tagore songs on the second day of the festival. Well known artistes from Tripura, namely Kamal Baran Chakrabarti, Ruma Chakrabarti and Tithi Dev Burman, participated in the festival. Fascinating chorus numbers were also presented, followed by dances by artistes from the Shanker Dance Academy.

Tokens of appreciation were given to Pradeep Kumar Mahanta Saha, director of the Eastern Cultural Centre, along with the artistes from Bangladesh, West Bengal and Assam. The audience appreciated the heartfelt performances by eminent Tagore artiste Nargis Chowdhury from Bangladesh, Agneeva Bandyapadhyay, Angshuv Bandyapadhyay and Tripti Sen from West Bengal and Shubhojeet Chakrabarti from Assam.
