Rashid Haroon is one of those teachers of dramatics who are trying to patronise Bangladeshi amateur theatre to give it a polished shape.

Associate Professor in the Department of Drama and Dramatics, Jahangirnagar University, Rashid Haroon has so far directed 3 plays for different member groups of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation. He has directed Shikhandi Katha, which Mahakal Natyasampradaya staged at the ongoing drama festival.

Haroon says, ‘Shikhandi Katha is an exception to our drama trend. Hermaphrodites are the part of the society, but we always tend to make fun of them. In the play I have tried to present the characteristics of the hermaphrodites in a colourful way.

In choreographs of the play, I have focused on their typical behaviour and dance.' Haroon claims that during direction he has followed the Mixed Creative Form, a blend of Ethnic Theatre and the usual western theatre trend.

Haroon has been directing for many years for the local theatrical groups at Jahangirnagar University also. In the mainstream theatre the ex-worker of Dhaka Theatre, Haroon, likes the direction of Nasiruddin Yousuff and Azad Abul Kalam.
