Rocking to foster the less fortunate
HSBC in Bangladesh and Dhaka Sheraton Hotel jointly organised a Charity Concert at the Winter Garden on March 24. Two of the Bangladeshi leading bands--Miles and LRB--performed at the concert. The funds generated from the concert will be donated to several local charities that are involved in promoting education and disability issues in Bangladesh.
Miles launched the concert and started their performance with some jamming. The first song they performed was Pahari Meye. While performing Aar Kotokaal Khujbo Tomay, Hamin and Shafin shared the view that contrary to the popular notion, this song does not refer to a lover searching for love. It's actually about the search for eternal truth. Miles also performed Neela, Jala, Back To You of Bryan Adams, Hotel California of The Eagles, Dhiki Dhiki Agun Joley, Shesh Thikana, Chand Tara Shurjo Nao Tumi and November Rain of Guns n Roses. Even after two decades, Miles hasn't lost their charm and that became evident at the concert, as the audience seemed to enjoy every minute of their performance.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Miles also brought to light the issue of music piracy before they performed Firiye Dao, as this song was illegally copied by the Indian music composer Annu Malik in the soundtrack of the movie Murder.
LRB took the stage and enthralled the audience with their skilled performance just as the LRB fans expected. LRB performed Ekta Meye, Ochena Jibon, Ghumbhanga Shohorey, Ural Debo, Mon Chaile Mon, Meye, Ghumonto Shohorey, Madhabi and Hashtey Dekho. Although the concert started late and by the time LRB started performing, it was almost 9:30 pm, the audience didn't seem to lack the zest for their music. People were singing along, as the band members were performing the immensely popular LRB songs. LRB also performed Don't Cry, Come As You Are and Smells Like Teen Spirit of Nirvana and With Or Without You of U2. LRB wrapped up the concert with Bangladesh.
A raffle draw was held during breaks. Qatar Airways sponsored the first prize of Dhaka-Seychelles-Dhaka. Dhaka Sheraton Hotel provided free one night accommodation with complimentary breakfast and lunch coupons to the raffle draw winners.
